Laurence PATTERSON
Possible Known as 'Nunk'

Serial Number: NZ43229
RNZAF Trade: Pilot
Date of Enlistment: 1943
Rank Achieved:
Flying Hours:
Operational Sorties:

Date of Birth: 30th of April 1924
Personal Details: Cambridge airman Charlie Christiansen recalled that a Cambridge district chap (possibly a farmer) who was known as 'Nunk' Patterson joined the RNZAF and ended up flying Corsairs in the Pacific. Laurence Patterson, NZ43229, certainly flew Corsairs in the Pacific and as he apparently is the only known RNZAF Corsair pilot who lived in the Te Awamutu-Cambridge area, a process of elimination means it is considered he should be included on this website. I would however like further information one way or another to confirm if Laurence Patterson ever lived in or near to Cambridge and was known in the town, and if he was known to his mates as 'Nunk'

Service Details: Laurence flew Corsairs with No. 14 (Fighter) Squadron, RNZAF

Date of Death :
Buried:

Connection with Cambridge:

Thanks To: Charlie Christiansen for the initial clues on this airman connected with Cambridge, and David Duxbury for providing the details on Laurence Patterson
